The Fire Museum of Texas chronicles the state's illustrious firefighting history from its beginnings in the mid-1800s to the present day. Visitors can view an assortment of antique equipment and fire engines, including the heroic 1931 Light Truck, or head to the simulated fire station area to try on firefighting gear, turn on the windshield wipers in a fire truck cab, and peek down the pole the men would have slid down upon hearing the alarm. The museum lies downtown, a few blocks east of Weiss Park.
